Persian cooking is characterised by the use of lots of fresh herbs such as coriander, parsley and mint. Light marinades flavoured with saffron, pomegranate and dried berries feature prominently.
A lot of people think it is spicy but it really isn’t. Fresh, healthy and aromatic are more accurate ways to describe it.
Today’s Big Deal is for a starter and main course chosen from the 5pm Big Deal menu.
Starters on the 5pm menu include the classic aubergine dish baba ghannouj; stuffed vine leaves; hummus and spinach bourani – spinach sauteed with garlic, virgin olive oil and thick yoghurt.
From the grill
Popular choices include the shish kebab – skewers of boneless, marinated chicken breast served with white saffron rice and grilled tomatoes – and the koobideh – two skewers of minced lamb shoulder seasoned with Persian herbs and served with white saffron or dill Persian rice.
We also recommend the ghaimeh bademjaan – diced lamb with chana dal, prepared with Persian cinnamon in a light tomato sauce with baby aubergine.
Alternatively, try the zereshk polo – tender, juicy, saffron-flavoured chicken served on a bed of fragrant Persian rice mixed with forest berries.
Veggies are very well catered for. Try the famous Persian dish imam bayildi – aubergine stuffed with mushrooms, onion, pepper, parsley, celery and garlic all roasted in tomato sauce.
Side dishes such as extra nan bread, Persian rice and grilled vegetable skewers can also be added at the special Big Deal price of £1.90 per dish.
