The Big Deal can’t offer you the complete Downton lifestyle (decent butlers are tricky to find these days) but we can offer the next best thing.
Take up today’s Big Deal with the Blackwell Grange Hotel in County Durham and, from the moment you see the sweeping driveway leading up to the hotel’s elegant Georgian facade, you can experience what it would be like to live in a beautiful, listed country house.
Hotel with history
The Blackwell Grange Hotel on the outskirts of Darlington has a long and fascinating history. Building commenced in 1693 and was finally completed in 1717. Remarkably, it was a family home until the 1950s.
These days, it plays host to a rather special hotel set in nine acres of scenic grounds which include an 18-hole golf course.
This great offer is for two people to enjoy a two night getaway in a standard double or twin room with a full English breakfast in the morning.
All rooms have TV, hairdryer and hot drinks facilities. The hotel has BT Openzone throughout, giving WIFI access in the bedrooms, public areas and conference rooms.
If you take up option 2, the deal includes a two course dinner in the hotel’s Havelock Restaurant which offers an extensive a la carte menu. For pre or after dinner drinks, there is Captain Cook’s Bar which has superb views across the grounds or you could settle in with a book in the Cocktail Bar.
The hotel has a superb indoor leisure club with heated pool, spa pool, solarium and saunas. There is a well-equipped gymnasium for the more energetic. If you’d prefer to play a round or two the hotel is surrounded by an 18-hole golf course which offers very attractive rates to guests.
See & do
There are plenty of attractions to visit in the vicinity of the Blackwell Grange Hotel. The historic City of Durham, Hartlepool Quay and Beamish Open Air Museum are all within half an hour drive from the hotel, with the market town of Darlington itself being only one mile away.
The Blackwell Grange Hotel is not short of admirers on TripAdvisor. This is what one recent visitor from Perth had to say:
‘Fab weekend at this hotel. Will definitely return… Really nice hotel set in lovely grounds & surroundings. Rooms were basic but clean and just what we needed for our stay. All rooms had tea & coffee making facilities and hairdryers. The breakfast was superb with lots to choose from, from toast and cereals to a full cooked, all fab! Free parking in the grounds with just a 5 minute drive into the shops and town centre of Darlington. Service was good, no faults. A pet friendly hotel highly recommended. I will definitely return in the future.’
