The temperature may be less than zero and the skies black by the time you read this but, right now, we have blue skies, daffodils and warm sunshine.
No-one’s slapping on the factor 30 yet but we’re calling it: spring is here.
Enjoy a spring break in a four star hotel with today’s Big Deal at the Carlton Hotel in Edinburgh city centre.
It’s a smart hotel in a central location in one of Europe’s most beautiful capitals – ideal for a city break.

As well as a full Scottish breakfast, the offer includes a three course dinner in the brasserie style Bridge Restaurant. The menu changes regularly but typical dishes might include starters such as the duck liver parfait with toasted ciabatta bread and an orange liquor coulis or, of course, the haggis, neeps and tatties with a whisky cream.
Popular main courses include dishes such as the crisped belly pork served with buttered curly kale, Stornoway black pudding, potato fondant and a calvados sauce or the pan-fried north Atlantic cod served with pak choi, dill mash and a honey and ginger dressing.
Finally, the Deal includes full use of the spa’s soothing facilities including the gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa pool.
See & do in Edinburgh
This would be the ideal offer for anyone keen to investigate the city’s stylish shopping options but, given The Carlton’s central location, it would also be perfect for visitors who want to see Edinburgh’s historic and contemporary sights. If you are travelling with kids, or even without, the recently refurbished National Museum of Scotland on nearby Chambers Street is brilliant.
The Carlton Hotel has no shortage of fans on TripAdvisor. This is what one very pleased and recent visitor had to say:
‘Brilliant location, brilliant hotel, brilliant staff. Stayed here for one night on Friday 22nd Feb 2013 with my husband and 5-year-old daughter. Arrived too early for check-in but the front desk staff gladly stowed our baggage for us. Went back to check in at about 5ish and front desk and concierge (Michael) were nearly tripping over themselves to help us.
Got a family room on the top floor at the back of the hotel which boasted amazing views of Leith and beyond. Massive room for the 3 of us; could have fitted in at least 6 more beds.
Used the swimming pool which was lovely and hot, just right after a day wandering around Edinburgh in the freezing cold.
Breakfast was amazing, hot and cold self service buffet with unlimited tea and coffee, staff very friendly and helpful – daughter ate like she hadn’t been fed for days!!
Overall a lovely stay in a very centrally located part of Edinburgh. Would definitely recommend to anyone and will definitely book again.’
