The building that now houses the stylish Hotel Indigo started life as Glasgow’s first power station and it provided the juice to run the city’s trams.
Its electricity-producing days are long gone but the city centre hotel’s contemporary interiors and colourful dining room are still generating plenty of buzz.
The original leccie company workers would be shocked by the building’s plush new incarnation but bright sparks will take up today’s Big Deal and plug into Glasgow’s latest boutique hotel.
Behind Hotel Indigo’s Victorian facade lies a sleek, contemporary interior that reflects Glasgow’s heritage but also features the very latest mod cons such as free WiFi throughout.
The Big Deal is for an overnight stay in one of the Executive Rooms which come kitted out with Egyptian cotton bedding; air conditioning; HD TVs with international cable and satellite channels; a radio alarm clock with iPod docking station; a mini bar with complimentary soft drinks and confectionery; Aveda toiletries and a walk in rainfall shower.
To really make a special occasion of your stay, you can arrange to have a bottle of Perrier Jouët Champagne in your room for just £30. Just tell the reception that you want to add on the champagne when you make your booking.
If you can bear to leave your luxury, then the hotel’s Limelight Bar and Grill are just as appealing. Before eating, the bar is a cool place to chill, especially while clutching one of the Limelight’s retro mixed drinks from a list that celebrates Glasgow’s cocktail culture. An Indigo cocktail is included in the Big Deal.
Decorated with portraits of notable Glaswegians and some rather funky lighting, the restaurant offers dishes such as steamed West Coast mussels, sticky ribs, Cajun monkfish and a dinky range of desserts.
Situated on Waterloo Street, Hotel Indigo is ideally placed to make the most of Glasgow’s shops, museums, theatres and hip ‘n’ happening nightlife.
Whether you want a romantic night away, a shopping splurge or a handy base for a high voltage nightclub crawl, today’s Big Deal with Hotel Indigo flicks all the right switches.
This is what irenew had to say about her stay in May on Tripadvisor:
‘Excellent all round. Hotel only opened 3 weeks ago but what an experience! The quality of equipment in rooms, fixtures, fittings, extras etc. all in the luxury category. Beds best ever in, towels fluffy and large.
