The rather elegant Knock Castle sits on a hill overlooking the old drovers’ town of Crieff.
Back in the 18th century, hundreds of cattle drovers and tens of thousands of cattle would converge on the town each October for the Michaelmas Fair – an event said to be like a cross between a rodeo; a brigands’ convention and Las Vegas on a particularly rowdy Thanksgiving weekend.
These days, Crieff’s charms are quieter but no less beguiling. Explore all that the town and surrounding countryside have to offer with today’s Big Deal on an overnight break at Knock Castle Hotel.
Sitting pretty above the old drovers’ town of Crieff, Knock Castle Hotel and Spa is only a short drive from Glasgow or Edinburgh but its tranquil grounds mean that it seems worlds away from the stress of the Central Belt.
Nestling in the idyllic hills of the Strathearn Valley, the hotel was formerly the 19th century baronial home of Scottish shipping magnate Lady MacBrayne.
Today’s Big Deal is for an overnight stay, Sunday to Thursday, in either a Lomond Room within the hotel or, in one of the large rooms in the Castle Lodge, which sits at the foot of the hotel’s gardens.
Designed in the same luxurious style as the main building, the Lodge’s vast rooms are ideal for a couple looking to get away from it all and the building also features lounge, dining room and a lift to all floors.
Included in the deal is a relaxing back, neck and shoulders massage for each guest. The Big Deal also gives you full use of the gym and pool complex which offers a wide range of facilities including sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and spa bath. The heated indoor pool has relaxing views onto the Hotel’s wooded gardens.
A full Scottish breakfast is included in the deal and, if you also decide to take other meals at the hotel, then you can enjoy the superb views from the new rooftop restaurant. Freshly cooked, local produce takes pride of place on the menu.
If you both order a three course table d’hote meal then the hotel will give you a complementary bottle of wine to enjoy with your food.
