Now that Christmas is over, many of us will start thinking about where to go for our summer hols.
Daunting isn’t it?
While you are mulling over your options, treat your taste buds to a tour of Persian flavours with today’s Big Deal on a meal for two at Persia restaurant on Great Western Road.
Not sure abut Persian food?
It’s delicious. A lot of people think it is spicy but it really isn’t. Fresh, healthy and aromatic are more accurate ways to describe it.
Persian cooking uses lots of fresh herbs such as coriander, parsley and mint. Light marinades flavoured with saffron, pomegranate and dried berries feature prominently.
Available from noon to 10pm Sun-Thur and Fri-Sat noon-7pm (tables back by 8.30pm), today’s Big Deal is two people to each have a starter and main course chosen from the Special Set Menu. A glass of wine for each diner is included in the menu.
Starters on the 5pm menu include the classic falafel with hummus; spicy pomegranate chicken wings; hummus and spinach bourani – spinach sautéed with garlic, virgin olive oil and thick yoghurt.
From the grill
Popular choices include the zereshk polo – tender, juicy, saffron-flavoured chicken served on a bed of fragrant Persian rice mixed with forest berries. – and the boneless chicken shish – skewers of marinated chicken breast seasoned with Persian herbs and served with saffron rice, nan bread or Persian salad. Alternatively, you could opt for the smoked BBQ cheeseburger, topped with melted cheese, house BBQ sauce and caramelised onion.
Veggies are very well catered for. Try the vegetarian spicy mix: a seasonal market vegetable mix served in a light spicy sauce, with Persian saffron or dill rice.
Side dishes such as extra naan bread, Persian rice and grilled vegetable skewers can also be added at a supplement.
Persian food may be new to many people but lots of 5pm customers have tried and loved it. At the time of writing, it has been given a healthy 4.4/5 combined rating by customers who have booked a table through 5pm.
This is what one guest had to say on TripAdvisor earlier this year:
‘Brilliant food. This is an excellent restaurant offering some of the most delicious food in Glasgow: the hummus starter is fantastic and the grilled meat is tender, well-marinated and moist with superb rice and naan bread. This was a lucky find in a lively part of town.’
