The royal family have long been regular visitors to Royal Deeside but you don’t need to be on Kate and Will’s Christmas card list to enjoy all that the Grampian Highlands have to offer.
Today’s Big Deal is at The Deeside Inn in the charming village of Ballater, right in the heart of Royal Deeside
While the royals often holiday by Ballater, we can’t promise that you will be bumping into Charles at breakfast or swapping hair dye tips with Kate over a pre-dinner lager tops.
However, this Big Deal on a two night mini-break would make a majestic Christmas present fit for a king. Or queen.
With vouchers valid from the 2nd of January to the 31st of March, this offer would be perfect for a winter getaway.
Recently refurbished, The Deeside Inn combines historic atmosphere with modern features and fittings.
The inn is over a hundred years old and includes period features such as wooden panelling, wooden beamed ceilings and, believe it or not, a wooden toilet said to be used by Queen Victoria.
Royal loo aside, the amenities in the rooms are comfortably contemporary. All of the bedrooms are en-suite and equipped with flat screen TVs, tea and coffee making facilities plus, of course, shortbread.
2 Night Mini-Break
The offer is for two people to enjoy a two consecutive night stay in a double or twin room at The Deeside Inn.
Breakfast each morning is included in the offer and it’s really quite a treat at The Deeside Inn. The breakfast menu provides the choice of either continental or full breakfast options with Scottish favourites such as porridge, Stornoway black pudding, smoked salmon and Finnan haddie all appearing.
If you really want to relax and enjoy your break, try the breakfast in bed option which is available from 7.30am to 10.30am. All you have to do is request it the night before breakfast will be served in your room at a time of your choice.
The public areas at The Deeside Inn are warm, cosy and welcoming. There is often a real fire burning in the lounge and the new Ceilidh Bar is a lively spot for a glass of wine or a dram from their extensive collection of single malts.
All stripped wooden flooring and local slate place mats, the restaurant offers a large selection of fish, grill and game with some local classics thrown in for good measure. Food is served throughout the day.
See & Do around Ballater
With the Cairngorm National Park on the doorstep there is no shortage of outdoor pursuits to enjoy. From skiing to mountaineering via walking and golf, it is all there.
Less energetic options include distillery visits; castle tours and royal spotting.
The Deeside Inn has attracted lots of enthusiastic reviews on TripAdvisor. We liked this one:
‘I’ll be back. Stayed for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely hotel with amazing lounge with open fire and comfy couches. Our room was immaculate and very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The breakfast staff were great and we even got our flasks filled up for us to take on our walk up Lochnagar.’
