In 1782, King George III was on the throne and the first hot air balloon was launched.
More important events, at least for Big Deal purposes, were taking place that year in Peebles where Castle Venlaw was built for the Sheriff Deputy of Peeblesshire.
George III is long gone as is the Sheriff Deputy but the wonderful Castle Venlaw remains.
Snap up today’s Big Deal and you can enjoy a relaxing overnight stay in one of the most beautiful venues in the Scottish Borders.
Open fires, turrets and peaceful woodland grounds – it’s ideal for taking a romantic break.
Built in the Scottish Baronial style and nestling in its own woodland grounds, Castle Venlaw may be over 300 years old but it can offer a warm and comfortable welcome to 21st century guests. This Big Deal is for two people to spend a night in a classic room at Castle Venlaw with a three course dinner in the evening and a full Scottish breakfast the next morning.
Rooms with character
All the rooms at Castle Venlaw are ensuite. The classic rooms have wonderful views over either the Borders’ landscape or the castle grounds.
If you choose option 2, then, as well as a four poster bed, your room will also feature a walk in shower, double bath and heated floors as well as a TV and DVD player.
WiFi access is available in the hotel bar.
As well as a full Scottish breakfast in the morning, the Big Deal includes a three course dinner for two. Fresh, Scottish produce appears extensively on the regularly changing menu.
Relax in library
From mountain biking to sightseeing, there is plenty to do in the Scottish Borders. Or you could just relax in the castle Library room with a book and a coffee or savour an after dinner malt from the hotel’s extensive whisky collection.
Less than an hour from Edinburgh and only an hour and a half from Glasgow, Castle Venlaw is an easy to reach destination for a short break. Its elegant accommodation has won it lots of admirers. This is the shortened version of a long and ecstatic review which was recently posted on TripAdvisor:
‘Relaxation at its best. We stayed at Castle Venlaw at the end of March and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves – our only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer. The castle is warm and welcoming as are the owners and staff.
‘Our room was beautifully appointed with a thoroughly modern bathroom en-suite. Old world charm by the bucket load without old world draughts and lumpy mattresses… Food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Breakfast also provided lots of choices and our indulgent “full Scottish” went down a treat. We are looking to return to this “gem” of a hotel at the first opportunity and cannot recommend it highly enough -relaxation-relaxation-relaxation!!!’
