If you’re looking to get away from it all but have no intention of roughing it then today’s Big Deal with the gorgeous Putechan Hotel will float your boat in a most comfortable manner.
Once the Duke of Argyll’s hunting lodge, the newly refurbished and extended Putechan Hotel lies on the western edge of Kintyre. Facing the Atlantic, it has stunning views of Islay, Jura and Gigha, all seen at their best when lit by the sinking sun.
Surrounded by rugged grounds with an amazing, private pebble beach, the hotel offers great vantage points from which to spot passing dolphins and Minke whales as well as the local otter population.
It is a remote, wild and staggeringly beautiful spot.
This tremendous offer is for two people to enjoy a relaxing two night stay at The Putechan Hotel. A full Scottish or continental breakfast is included in the offer.
Option one is for a two night stay in a master room. To the front of the hotel, on the ground floor, these ensuite, West-facing rooms enjoy stunning views over the Atlantic. A bottle of wine on arrival will help you settle in to your new home.
Option two is for a two night stay in an ensuite principal room. Located on the first floor, these rooms have a private balcony and beautiful sea views. This option includes a bottle of chilled Prosecco in your room – enjoy it on the balcony while drinking in the view.
Comfortable, warm and decorated in a contemporary style, all of the rooms can be set up as a double or twin and have TV with Freeview channels, tea/coffee making facilities and hair dryers.
A full Scottish or continental breakfast is included in the offer but, if you choose to eat other meals at The Putechan, then your taste buds will enjoy a delicious culinary tour of Argyll’s natural larder.
See & do
We have mentioned the great wildlife spotting opportunities to be found around The Putechan Hotel but there is so much more to do. The famous Machrihanish Golf Club and the more recently developed Machrihanish Dunes are nearby while whisky lovers can make an enjoyable pilgrimage to the Springbank Distillery in nearby Campbeltown.
With practically no light pollution, and clever outdoor lighting systems the Putechan also enjoys fantastic stargazing on a cloudless night.
Alternatively, just pick a whisky from the bar’s fine selection and watch the Atlantic surf crash onto the hotel’s beach.
In its new, refurbished guise, The Putechan Hotel has not been open long but is already attracting enthusiastic reviews. We couldn’t put it better than this recent TripAdvisor review from a guest who made good use of a previous Big Deal offer:
‘A little gem… Lovely long weekend using our 5pm voucher with an upgrade to a principal room and we were not disappointed. The setting of this hotel should not be under estimated; it has its own sandy and rocky bay and, on a clear day, Ireland is visible over the water.
‘Friendly welcoming staff and lovely food in the restaurant and bar area. All staff were very helpful, full of chatter and recommendations about what to do and see in the area…........from distilleries, St Columba’s footsteps, Mull of Kintyre lighthouse, Machrihanish, McCartney farmhouse…...........the list goes on. And at the end of the day, dinner in the hotel with a wee nightcap and sweet dreams in a lovely room. What can be better – Scottish hospitality at its best. We will be back!’
