The Scottish writer Kenneth Grahame once noted that the best thing about being on holiday was not so much resting up yourself as watching everyone else work.
Take his advice by snapping up today’s Big Deal on a break at the four star Knock Castle Hotel and Spa in Crieff.
Just be sure to maximise your enjoyment of the holiday by sending your work colleagues a postcard.
Sitting pretty above the old drovers’ town of Crieff, Knock Castle Hotel and Spa is only a short drive from Glasgow or Edinburgh but its tranquil grounds mean that it seems worlds away from the stress of the Central Belt.
Valid Sunday-Thursday, today’s Big Deal is for a one or two night stay in one of the large rooms in the Castle Lodge, which sits at the foot of the hotel’s gardens.
Designed in the same luxurious style as the main building, the Lodge’s vast rooms are ideal for a couple looking to get away from it all and the building also features lounge, dining room and a lift to all floors.
A full Scottish breakfast each morning is part of the deal and each couple will find a bottle of house red or white wine in their room on arrival.
The offer includes a session in the hydrotherapy pool for each couple plus a 15 minute session each in the Egg – a relaxation capsule designed to deliver the benefits of a clothed, full body massage.
The Big Deal also gives you full use of the gym and pool complex which offers a wide range of facilities including sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and spa bath. The heated indoor pool has relaxing views onto the Hotel’s wooded gardens.
As mentioned, a full Scottish breakfast is included in the deal and, if you also decide to take other meals at the hotel, then you can enjoy the superb views from the new rooftop restaurant. Freshly cooked, local produce takes pride of place on the menu.
Alternatively, open for dinner on Sundays, the classically styled Oak Restaurant at Knock Castle serves a fine dining a la carte menu and a seven course degustation menu.
Typical dishes might be the starter of venison carpaccio with a redcurrant sauce and rocket and Parmesan salad or the main course of char grilled Scottish beef fillet served on confit cherry tomatoes, fondant potato, turned courgettes and a tarragon hollandaise.
Please note that the Oak restaurant has a collar and tie dress code. There is no dress code for the Rooftop Restaurant.
Guests may also venture out onto the Rooftop Terrace anytime of the year where they can enjoy a pre or post dinner drink.
