Before it was a hotel, Skeabost Country House Hotel was a hunting lodge, built in the 19th century by the MacDonalds.
But the Skeabost name goes back much further – to Viking times.
Norse for The Sheltered House, the Skeabost name implies that there was some sort of dwelling on this site in the north of Skye around a thousand years ago.
Taking in Norsemen, bootlegged whisky, the Clearances and, believe it or not, even Sir Harry Lauder, the Skeabost area is rich in folklore, myth and legends.

‘Lovely location. We stayed here for 2 nights and can’t really fault the place. It’s an old hotel with some lovely antiquated rooms. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was lovely! Open fire in lounge with huge couches for lounging in. Beautiful and peaceful area. Would stay there again.’
