What links Pink Floyd, the Cowal Gathering, Mary Queen of Scots and the UK National Swamp Football Championships?
Full marks if you answered Dunoon; the resort town on the Cowal Peninsula has hosted them all over the years.
If you want to follow in the footsteps of the Floyd, Queen Mary or indeed the swamp mopnsters then today’s Big Deal with the family-owned Argyll Hotel is a great way to delve into Dunoon.
A Best Western venue, the Argyll Hotel is right in the centre of the town. Situated next to the Cal Mac Ferry Terminal, it has cracking views over the River Clyde.
Newly refurbished, the landmark hotel has 32 individually styled, ensuite bedrooms. They are all equipped to a high standard and many enjoy those panoramic views of the Clyde.
They come equipped with flat screen TV, direct dial telephone, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers, free WiFi access and individual heaters.
The hotel’s eating options range from the Clyde Dining Room with its traditional Scottish menu selection to the Rio for its signature cocktails and chic Italian cuisine. Alternatively, the Clyde Suite has informal bar meals.
Locals as well as hotel guests enjoy the seasonal menus and local ingredients which the Argyll restaurants produce. The Sicilian influenced dishes in the Rio are always popular but the hotel also serves over a thousand portions of their traditional steak pie every year.
The hotel is easy to access. There is an hourly service to Gourock on the ferry and fast rail connections to all of central Scotland.
