The building which is now the lovely Loch Fyne Hotel and Spa has a colourful history. During the Second World War, it was the HQ for Combined Operations Training.
King George VI, de Gaulle, Eisenhower and Winston Churchill all visited in the past and the D-Day Landings were partially planned there.
These days, the emphasis is less on conquering Europe and more on tackling a nearby Munro or perhaps planning an all-out assault on the a la carte menu in the dining room.
With today’s Big Deal, you can make like Winston and enjoy a stay at the Loch Fyne Hotel and Spa, a hotel which enjoys one of the finest views in Scotland.
As the name suggests, the hotel sits on the banks of Loch Fyne. It has been comprehensively refurbished over the last few years and now features full leisure facilities including an indoor heated pool, steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi and outdoor Canadian hot tub.
The hotel’s Clansman restaurant makes the best use of the fantastic local produce with menus split into sections which offer dishes ‘From the land’ and ‘From the loch’. The food is complemented by an extensive wine list and a great selection of brews from Loch Fyne Ales.
For an additional charge, Spa therapies and beauty treatments are available in the Sonas Spa. Advance booking is required.
All the rooms are en-suite, decorated in warm, natural shades and fitted with high quality fittings and furnishings including coffee making facilities, a hairdryer and trouser press. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
The Loch Fyne Hotel’s location is spectacular but it’s also ideal for exploring Inveraray and mid-Argyll. Nearby attractions include Inveraray Jail and Castle (closes end October) and golfing, horse-riding, hill-walking and fishing are all available locally.
Visitors like it. This is what Tom D had to say on TripAdvisor recently:
‘Excellent Hotel, good food, courteous staff. My wife and I have just returned from a most enjoyable five night dinner bed and breakfast stay in the hotel… We will be back in the near future.’
