16th century tower house
Now a member of the Mercure group, Barony Castle Hotel & Spa was originally a 16th century tower house built by the Murrays of Blackbarony.
Sitting pretty in 25 acres of lush gardens, the grand exterior still looks like a fairytale castle but the Barony has been considerably altered since then. Not least in the introduction of all the modern comforts which you would expect to find in a 21st century hotel.
There is free high speed internet in all of the hotel’s 78 ensuite rooms along with satellite TV and a hot drinks tray.
This Big Deal is for two people to enjoy a one night stay in one of the hotel’s standard double or twin rooms. A full Scottish breakfast is served in the morning but you will also enjoy a delicious afternoon tea, served with a glass of sparkling wine.
Guests can use the hotel’s leisure facilities which include an indoor pool, mini-gym, spa bath and sauna. Mountain biking fans will know the fantastic Glentress woodland trails are a short drive away.
Easy to reach
Just over half an hour from Edinburgh, Mercure Barony Castle Hotel & Spa is not far from the main population centres of the Central Belt but its tranquil Borders setting will feel a very long way away from city hassles.
Previous guests have been very enthusiastic with the hotel staff often receiving special mention for the warmth of their welcome. This is what a recent guest had to say on TripAdvisor:
‘Fantastic weekend at the castle. We have just returned from a wonderful weekend with friends at Mercure Barony Castle Hotel & Spa, setting was amazing especially with the snow. It was like a fairytale setting. The minute you walk in the door, we got a lovely homely welcome. Our room was amazing, dinner and breakfast with excellent choice. All staff were very helpful and welcoming, nothing was a problem. A big thank you to Graeme in reception for his warm welcome and hospitality. Looking forward to our next visit.’
