Being able to parliamo Glasgow is a useful skill but not one that will help when trying to decipher a menu in Madrid or order a birra in Bologna.
Get to grips with holiday Spanish or Italian with today’s Big Deal at the Tennent’s Visitor Centre at Glasgow’s famous Wellpark Brewery.
Aimed at beginners, these six week language courses are an opportunity to learn essential holiday vocabulary and gain an insight into modern Spanish or Italian culture – all in a fun relaxed environment.
No previous experience is necessary, and there are no exams so no need for late night study sessions!
Drinks and nibbles
While this hasn’t exactly been scientifically tested, this scribbler’s language skills always seem to improve after a relaxing glass or two.
It’s a theory which the Academy seems to have embraced.
Each weekly session will be accompanied by drinks, and for one week where learning about food is involved, either tapas or antipasti to nibble on – ideal for getting into the spirit of things.
The Spanish course starts on Wednesday 3rd May and runs for the next five Wednesdays.
The Italian course starts on Tuesday 2nd May and runs for the next five Tuesdays.
All the courses start at 6pm and last for two hours.
Fun and informative
For those who still cringe at memories of conjugating verbs at school – don’t panic.
These courses are designed to be fun and useful. No one is going to get their knuckles rapped because they don’t know the subjunctive tense for gustar.
However, by the end of the six weeks, you will be a lot more confident about ordering in a restaurant or bar while soaking up some holiday sun.
The different classes at Tennent’s Visitor Centre have pleased many a guest. Taken from longer reviews, these comments were all made by smiling, happy people:
‘Wine tasting master class. Had never been to the Training Academy but wanted to try something new and experience a different night out. Class members had a mix of wine experience so didn’t feel out of place having not been to a tasting event. Informal setting which encouraged class participation and interaction. Interesting selection of wine and generous portions. Nibbles to keep you going and complement the vino. Lynn who took the class was funny, knowledgeable and knew her stuff… will definitely book up for another academy event!’
‘Excellent night on Friday at a rum tasting course. Lots of cocktails, lots of rum and lots of fun. Trainer was brilliant, really knows his rums, TTA is a great location, fun venue and the staff can’t be faulted. Definitely recommended for fun night out or a learning experience.’
Simply sticking an ‘O’ on the end of words is not good enough. Asking the waiter for ‘Dos porco chops with chips, por favor’ will not make you any new friends.
Learning a few words of useful Spanish or Italian will make your holiday that much more enjoyable and these informal language classes at Tennent’s Visitor Centre are a fun way to get started.
