Already it’s brass monkeys outside and it seems unlikely that January will bring many reasons to dig out the beachwear.
Fight the freeze and warm your cockles with today’s Big Deal on a fab meal at Iglu in Edinburgh’s New Town.
Available from the 8th of January to the 13th of February 2013, this offer would make a welcome Christmas present. Or just buy a few now and look forward to some cosy meals out in what promises to be a chilly start to 2013.
Recommended by the Michelin Guide, hit listed several times by The List and a finalist in the RSPCA Good Business Awards, the Jamaica Street bar and restaurant specialises in ethically sourced food which shows off the best of Scotland’s food and drink.
This cracking offer comes in two forms. Option one is for a starter and main course from the Iglu Big Deal lunch menu plus a glass of house wine or a pint of Black Isle Organic beer.
Iglu is all about locally produced, seasonal ingredients so the exact dishes on offer will vary but typical starters on the lunch menu might include the terrine of wild Scottish hare with sweet pickled veg or the smoked haddock pate. Typical main courses might include the Borders wild boar burger; the parsley and tarragon fishcakes or the venison red wine and mushroom casserole.
The second tier of this offer is for a starter and main course from the Big Deal dinner menu at Iglu. As we noted above, Iglu’s menus are seasonal so we can’t predict exact dishes but the menu will be along the following lines.
For starters, the choice might include crispy Saddle Back pork belly with sautéed apple and black pudding, Cullen skink or a savoury cheesecake with chestnut and carrot.
Typical main courses might be the roasted crown of partridge with bread sauce, roasted potatoes and buttered seasonal vegetables or, for fish lovers, the organic halibut from Gigha served with saffron mash, braised leeks and a mussel broth.
Iglu has had plenty of plaudits from magazines, guides and trade bodies but it’s the public that really counts. If TripAdvisor is anything to go by, then they are just as enthusiastic:
‘Just scrummy. My boyfriend and I went to Iglu last Friday night… everything was just gorgeous! I had wood pigeon for starter, which was delicate and melt in the mouth. I then had lamb and trio of (sic) peas for mains and it was cooked to perfection. Followed by the cheesecake and cheese board… both amazing accompanied by great wine. The service was personal and knowledgeable. Would recommend to anyone who appreciates great food in a relaxed atmosphere.’
