Glasgow has long been a kind of Manhattan for stand-up comedy.
If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.
And if you can’t cut it, the audience is usually quick to let you know.
Demanding but generous audiences mean the best stand-ups thrive in the city, and a live comedy show remains one of the most enjoyable ways to spend a Thursday night out in Glasgow.
With that in mind, give your sense of humour a workout with today’s Big Deal on an energetic and entertaining night of comedy at The Corinthian Club on Thursday 27th April.
Fun and fizz
Corinthian comedy nights certainly pack in the action. The evening begins at 7pm with a welcoming glass of fizz and some genial warm-up from engaging regular compere Paul McDougall.
Described as ‘warm, friendly and making waves in the school of hard knocks which is live comedy’, Paul will be introducing all the performers, including your opening act Rosco McLelland.
Rosco may be first on the bill but has been doing this comedy thing long enough to be awarded the Scottish Comedian of the Year title.
At the time, Chortle – the comedy industry Bible – reckoned that his act has ‘Unquestionable shades of Billy Connolly, engaging attention to detail offset by some lovely, slightly surreal touches. His main story is a cracker. A worthy winner, he was the unequivocal choice of the five judges.’
Up and coming acts Dave Chawner and Kevin McPadden will look after the evening’s middle slots before the mighty Raymond Mearns strides onstage.
Frankie Boyle has called him a ‘genuine improvisational genius’ while a certain Mr Connolly admiringly notes that this is ‘a man that knows how to swear properly’. High praise indeed.
And don’t worry, there are intervals so you will be able to top up your drinks.
The seating is cabaret style – rather more sociable than sitting in rows.
The Corinthian Club has more than 900 reviews on its 5pm Dining page where it has earned a combined score of 4.1/5. This is what a recent guest had to say:
‘Classy and amazing value. Great deal, treated like royalty and just such a relaxing atmosphere and such great value for money.’ Rating 5/5
It is also highly rated on TripAdvisor. Edited for length, this recent visitor enjoyed karaoke with her friends:
‘We attended for a hen party last week and had the most amazing evening/night… The karaoke had a fantastic choice of songs and there was nothing we couldn’t find. The staff were all amazing and couldn’t do enough for us.’
Keep ‘em laughing
The Corinthian Club comedy nights are quickly becoming an important date in the Glasgow entertainment diary.
Grab this Big Deal and enjoy the up close thrill of a live comedy show with friends.
