Imagine what it would be like if you got the same presents every Christmas. Pretty dull, huh? Yet every Christmas, most of us sit down to the same turkey dinner.
Now, there is nothing wrong with a traditional Christmas dinner but, rather like receiving your fifteenth Family Guy tie, it can get repetitive after several years in row.
Today’s Big Deal is your chance to break the shackles of convention; throw off the tedium of turkey and go mad for Masala Twist’s spicy take on a Christmas Day banquet.
Masala Twist on Byres Road is pretty much a box fresh restaurant but, between the owners, managers and kitchen team, they have been in the Indian food biz since, oooh, round about the time that chillies were first exported to India.
Put it this way, they know their achari from their aloo and they have brought all that experience to the table with this cracking four course Christmas Day Banquet for four people.
The banquet will get underway with that old fave popadums, spiced onions and BBQ sauce. Once your taste buds have been tickled by the appetisers, it is time to bring on the starters. Choose between the Masala Twist platter; the soup of the day or the prawn cocktail.
There are a whopping ten different main courses to choose from. They include melt in the mouth monkfish in the Goan fish curry; a selection of kebabs cooked in the tandoor oven; lamb or chicken bhoona and Lucknowi murgh which is breast of chicken simmered in a mild creamy pasanda sauce and served with jeera rice.
Veggie options include the saag aloo, potato cooked with spinach; and the vegetable jalfrezie.
If you prefer turkey then that’s no problem. The banquet includes a traditional turkey platter with all the trimmings or you could have the prime fillet of haddock fried until golden and served with French fries and crisp salad garnish.
Dessert is a choice between traditional Christmas pudding; Scottish tablet ice cream; cooling mango kulfi or sweet gulab jamin and ice cream.
There are two sittings on Christmas Day. One from 1pm-4pm and the second from 4.30pm-7.30pm, and each sitting even gets a visit from Santa Clause!
So, if you want to have a spicy change from turkey; avoid all that time consuming shopping and dodge the dishes then today’s Big Deal with Masala Twist has got your name on it.
