Glasgow loves Italian food so much that if the Italians hadn’t invented it then a Glaswegian would have.
Take up today’s Big Deal on a five hour Italian cookery class and wine tasting at the Tennent’s Training Academy and you’ll master the country’s cuisine quicker than you can say ‘Buon appetito!’
Hidden behind the gates of the famous Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow’s East End sits the Tennent’s Training Academy, Scotland’s centre for excellence in entertaining and hospitality training.
The multi-million pound Academy is used to train Scotland’s next generation of top notch chefs but it also opens its doors to the public so that they too can learn the culinary secrets of the country’s finest kitchen artistes.
This Big Deal starts with a tour of the Academy and Cook School before the teaching staff welcomes the class to the state of the art theatre kitchen.
Hands on learning
After tea or coffee and shortbread, the chefs will demonstrate the dishes which the students will be cooking. Kitted out in their Cook School aprons, guests will take up their positions at their individual work stations and get to grips with making the following menu:
Classic mushroom risotto
Spaghetti carbonara (with your own handmade pasta)
Garlic focaccia bread and fresh summer salad
Tiramisu with affogato
Your day will finish with an introduction to six Italian wines chosen by Chef to compliment your dishes.
Guests will sample the wines while Chef talks through their characteristics and explains the principles of food and wine matching.
Due to the consumption of alcohol, please be advised the Big Deal is available to over 18s only.
Before leaving you will receive a branded Cook School apron and canvas bag containing all the recipes for the dishes you have cooked as well as a £5 off voucher for your next course booking.
