Great Victorian inventions include the telephone, train and the radio.
Less successful Victorian inventions include steam-powered nail clippers; top hats for toddlers and mini inflatable feet canoes for crossing rivers.
Today’s Big Deal with the Victorian-themed Ingram Wynd restaurant is definitely in the first camp when it comes to usefulness. Think telephone rather than two-year-old in a topper.
Set in Glasgow’s buzzy Merchant City, Ingram Wynd is an elegant restaurant and bar that blends fascinating Victorian memorabilia with friendly service and delicious, contemporary cuisine.
Covered in etchings, pictures, paintings and maps dating from the 19th century, the decor at Ingram Wynd is a treasure trove of local history.
While the interior design is eye-catching, it is the food which holds the attention.
Three course gourmet menu
Today’s Big Deal starts with guests enjoying a glass of Prosecco while they study Ingram Wynd’s Big Deal gourmet menu. Packed with a choice of five starters, five main courses and four desserts, there is plenty to get your teeth into.
Among the starters, choices include a tower of haggis, neeps and tatties served with a whisky sauce and a Scottish seafood platter comprising mackerel, trout, salmon, homemade pickles, buttered brown bread and a mayo dip.
Popular main courses are likely to be the chicken breast stuffed with black pudding and an apple and calvados jus or the grilled rib-eye steak.
Desserts include clootie dumpling and custard; chocolate and bramble mousse; mixed berry cranachan with shortbread and the cheese of the day.
Each couple can savour a bottle of red or white wine with their menu plus tea or coffee with tablet. A little dram of the Ingram’s house liqueur will bring your meal to a suitably luxurious end.
The restaurant is popular with 5pm diners. At the time of writing, just under 400 of you have rated it 4.3/5 and numerous diners have doffed their toppers to the restaurant with glowing reviews:
‘Another wonderful meal – food was tasty and a good choice on the menu. As ever, the staff were friendly and attentive. This is fast becoming one of my favourite restaurants.’ Rating 5/5
