Ever since Ug stepped out of his cave and saw birds swooping across the sky, mankind, much like Orville, has always wished for the power of flight.
Well, we can all quit flapping because today’s Big Deal with Adventure 001 Helicopters combines a thrilling helicopter flight over East Lothian with a tour of Concorde – one of the most iconic planes ever built.
A thousand feet high
If everything about flying makes your pulse race then today’s Big Deal will send it into outer space.
Taking off from East Fortune, passengers will reach for the skies in a Bell 206 Jet Ranger (or its equivalent).
After hovering just above ground, your helicopter will swiftly climb up to 1000 feet. Once at cruising height, you will be able to see all the local landmarks spread out below.
During the eight mile circuit, passengers have plenty of opportunities to take pictures so that you can relive the experience again and again.
Upgrade to co-pilot
The offer is for a rear seat in the cabin but, for an extra £10, there is the option to upgrade to the co-pilot experience and sit with the pilot in the cockpit.
Of course, a full safety briefing and public liability insurance are included in the deal.
The experience includes entry to the fascinating National Museum of Flight at East Fortune. Part of National Museums Scotland, this brilliant venue tells the history of aviation from the early 20th century to the jet age.
From old bi-planes to Spitfires, Messerschmitts and Vulcans, it holds a stunning collection of aircraft.
One of the jewels in the museum’s crown is the Alpha-Alpha Concorde in Hangar 4.
As part of the experience, you will tour Concorde and find out about the role the aircraft played in breaking the sound barrier; what it was like to be crew member or traveller on the plane and how Alpha-Alpha came to Scotland.
Add in a traditional cream tea at the museum and you have the sort of package which will make you feel as though you have wings.
With a minimum passenger age of six (under twelves must be accompanied by an adult), this offer would make a brilliant gift for any budding fly boy.
Not that you need to still be at school to enjoy this offer. The breath-taking panoramas on the helicopter flight; the dozens of planes at the museum and the Concorde tour will appeal to anyone fascinated by the thought of taking to the skies.
