Spring is in the air. You throw off your mammoth-skin coat, crawl blinking out of the cave and re-enter the world.
As you walk down the street, watching out for any lingering yeti, you stumble upon something wonderful – an elegant city centre brasserie.
You wonder what kind of food they serve. Surely it has got to be better than roasted elk and snow cones?
There is only one way to find out – by grabbing today’s Big Deal for a three course meal for two with sparkling wine at Urban Bar & Brasserie.
Meal for two with fizz
This Big Deal offers the chance to enjoy a three course meal from Urban’s brand new 2018 a la carte menu, which will celebrate the ‘Auld Alliance’ of the best of Scottish and French cuisine.
The menu may be subject to change, but will look very much like the following:
Parfait of chicken livers with onion marmalade & oatcakes
Smoked mackerel salad with orange, fennel & French dressing
Baked camembert served with homemade crusty bread & spiced apple chutney
Confit duck leg with Toulouse sausage & bean cassoulet
Wild mushroom risotto with parmesan & truffle oil
Crisp sea bass niçoise salad
Apple and berry crème brûlée with crumble topping
Pear frangipane tart with caramel sauce & extra thick cream
Selection of French & Scottish cheeses with biscuits & apple & apricot chutney
On arrival, you will be given a glass of French ‘methode champenoise’ sparkling wine to get your meal off to a swinging start. Of course, you are welcome to swap your fizz for a soft drink if you prefer.
This Big Deal is available Sundays to Thursdays from noon to 9pm, and Fridays from noon to 5pm.
Beautiful brasserie dining
Urban Bar & Brasserie is situated on St. Vincent Place, and is actually the former home of the Bank of England’s Scottish headquarters, making it an impressive spot for a meal. Inside, you will find an Art Deco dining room that blends old school elegance with a contemporary edge.
Wherever possible, Chef Colin Duffy uses locally sourced and seasonal ingredients to create eclectic food with a strong French ethos. Menus are complemented by a well thought out wine list.
Urban Bar & Brasserie has enjoyed recent enthusiastic reviews from 5pm customers, including these ones, which we’ve edited for length:
‘Excellent meal. We have visited urban once before and have to say the whole experience was excellent. The food and service was first class. We can’t wait to go back.’
‘Definitely one of my favourites. A pleasure to be back here… so much so am back for an ‘action replay’ next week … absolutely nothing negative to say about Urban Brasserie… love it. Menus changed from last visit few months ago but everything on offer looked delicious…’
‘Lovely food in a beautiful setting. Busy but without too much noise and no one sitting too close to us. Service great. We had a really lovely evening.’
Ooh la carte
What better way to celebrate spring than with a three course meal for two at a chic art deco brasserie?
Available until early May, this Big Deal from Urban Bar & Brasserie will give you the chance to try out their brand new menu alongside a reviving glass of French fizz.
It would also make a brownie points grabbing birthday or Mother’s Day gift.
