The American comedian Phyllis Diller quipped that the only time she enjoyed ironing was when she accidentally poured gin in the steam iron.
Iron out the creases with today’s Big Deal on afternoon G&Tea for 2 at Finsbay, Milngavie’s cute and funky bar bistro.
Choose the unconventional
Located on Main Street, Finsbay is an endearingly quirky restaurant, bar and café.
A welcoming neighbourhood hangout, it features retro chic decor which will bring back memories for anyone who remembers the Sixties and Seventies.
G Plan furniture, a Tretchikoff-style portrait and a wall decorated with rotary dial phones set the tone.
Put simply, it is as unusual as Hendrick’s Gin, sponsors of this Big Deal and the people who kick-started the artisan gin boom.
Pick the peculiar
Available from 2pm to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, the offer is for two people to have Hendrick’s G&Tea.
As the name suggests, this is no ordinary afternoon tea. There will be scones, a daily selection of cakes and sandwiches. Probably filled with variations on cucumber, hummus, pastrami, chicken and tuna.
Rather than tea, your liquid libation will come in the form of a Hendrick’s cocktail teapot filled with Hendrick’s Gin, peach brandy, orange and fresh lemon juice all topped with Prosecco.
A combination which will make that afternoon’s edition of Pointless go with a certain zip.
Since opening last year, Finsbay has quickly established itself as a firm favourite in Milngavie. Taken from longer reviews on Finsbay’s 5pm page, these quotes give a flavour of what Finsbay is all about:
‘Cakes thoroughly recommended… The home-baked cakes in particular are absolutely outstanding. Really perfect cake and I have tested many in my lifetime! Got lots of cuddles from the friendly dog at the next table which was a welcome bonus.’
‘Restaurant with a difference. The food was lovely. Good value. Restaurant is Seventies style but works well. The TV which is now a fish tank was quirky… We really enjoyed our evening and would definitely go back day or night.’
Catch-up with a friend
This Big Deal would be ideal for a natter with a pal or a late lunch.
Don’t tell the boss but we’re bunking off work this afternoon to make the most of it.
