There used to be an old French cheese advert which implied that all one required for perfect happiness was to be with your lover in a sun-dappled field while scoffing ‘du pain, du vin et du Boursin’ or bread, wine and cheese.
Tastes have become a little more sophisticated since then and today’s fantastic Big Deal with Hotel du Vin in Edinburgh’s Old Town will appeal to anyone who likes to enjoy fine food and wine in a unique and stylish setting.
The Big Deal is for 8 people to enjoy a 3 course meal in the Chef’s Table private dining room at Hotel du Vin, Edinburgh.
As well as a glass of Prosecco on arrival, the deal includes a half bottle of house wine per person to accompany your meal.
The menu on offer will depend on what’s in season but Head Chef Gavin Lindsay specialises in putting a modern twist on classic dishes. Think along the lines of main courses such as the confit duck leg with pancetta and frizz salad; poached salmon with fennel and desserts like the pear and almond tart.
As the name suggests, wine is at the heart of Hotel du Vin and the wine list makes very happy reading for wine lovers.
Take up option 2 of today’s Big Deal and, not only will you enjoy the meal and drinks detailed above, but you will also experience an hour long, three wine, private tasting with the Head Sommelier in the hotel’s striking Laroche Tasting room.
Today’s Big Deal would make a great gift for someone celebrating a special birthday but it would also make for a spectacular meal out with friends or family.
This Big Deal writer has eaten in the private dining rooms at Edinburgh’s Hotel du Vin on a number of occasions and I’ve also been at a tasting in the Laroche room.
I’ve really enjoyed each evening but you don’t have to take my word for it. At the time of writing, over 80 5pm customers have eaten at Hotel du Vin and given a great combined rating of 4.2/5. This is what a recent guest had to say:
‘We had a fantastic meal at the Hotel du Vin. The quality of the food and wine is great, and the portions generous – we couldn’t fit in pudding even though tempted. Highly recommended.’ Rating 4.8/5
