Ah, lovely Strathbungo. It’s got it all, really. Idyllic streets, a lake with swans and a tingling buzz of excitement in the air.
So much so that we might soon be re-naming it Strath-buzzgo (OK, sorry).
With all this in mind, what better place to unwind over cheese and wine?
Specifically, in that charming Southside hideaway, Marchtown, which is offering a cheese selection and bottle of wine or fizz with today’s Big Deal.
So what’s it to be then – red, white, rosé or bubbles? Oh, the dilemma.
Wine and cheese? Yes please!
This Big Deal is for two people to share a cheese selection and bottle of wine or fizz at Marchtown on Pollokshaws Road.
Cheese selections are beautifully presented on handmade oak boards and all items are sourced from local suppliers.
You will be able to choose between a bottle of red, white, rosé or bubbles. As Marchtown’s specially selected wine menu is huge, you won’t be short of choice, plus the knowledgeable team will be happy to advise.
Marchtown is a specialist wine bar, shop and restaurant serving cheese, charcuterie and sharing plates. As well as this, the venue holds regular tasting events.
Beyond its vivid blue and gold facade, you will find a cosy wooden interior decorated in fairy lights and lined, of course, with many bottles of wine.
In other words, the ideal spot for an intimate date or gossipy catch-up with a friend.
If you are arriving by train then Crossmyloof station is around a ten-minute walk away.
Happy wine drinkers
Marchtown has an outstanding overall 5/5 score on TripAdvisor. Here are some recent rave reviews:
‘A true gem in Glasgow. My wife and I went here on our last night in Glasgow and met a few friends from here. I have visited Glasgow 20+ times and can confess that I have never seen a place quite like this anywhere in Scotland. Everything was perfect, and our host Anthony was a true gentleman and an expert on everything we were served, which was probably everything they had! We had whisky, wine, beer, meat/cheese boards, etc. I encourage you to try everything. There wasn’t one bite or sip that wasn’t superb. We were a party of 8, and I speak for the group. Impressive place, with owners who clearly care about the whole experience.’
‘Brilliant place. Arrived on a sat night with friends, really busy but the waitress managed to seat us alongside some other people at the window. Waitress was fab, gave us plenty of options, described the beer and the wines and gave us time to choose. Wine was lovely and we also shared a small cheese board which was delicious. Prices very reasonable. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Marchtown, in fact I have already done so to quite a few people and will definitely become a regular customer. Well done to all involved.’
‘Another new and wonderful addition to the Southside! Anthony and his team work hard to create a warm and cosy space where you can relax with friends old and new while enjoying some of the carefully selected wines, boutique beers, cocktails, snacks and antipasti on offer. The regular tasting events are fab too. Held in the room downstairs from the bar which can also accommodate small, private functions. Anthony varies the format for his tastings to keep them informal but informative and fun too. Anthony’s knowledge is really impressive and you are guaranteed the same attentive service and input even if you’re just popping in to pick up some wine or beer to take home. We’ve been twice now as a couple and also with friends and we hope to visit again soon.’
