The French are said to have invented hot air balloons, Etch-A-Sketch and the stethoscope.
All very useful but not a patch on the greatest French invention of all: steak frites.
Raise a glass to our French friends and get your teeth into today’s Big Deal on steak frites for two with a bottle of house wine to share at Metropolitan Cocktail Bar and Restaurant.
Located in Merchant Square, Metropolitan has long been a sophisticated spot for a candlelit meal or a well made cocktail.
Whether you are dining in the atmospheric courtyard or the romantic Balcony Restaurant overlooking Merchant Square, Metropolitan is an inviting spot for an intimate meal or a night out with friends.
Bottle of wine to share
Available 5pm to 9.45pm, Sunday to Thursday and from 2pm to 7pm on Fridays, this offer is for two people to each have steak frites along with a bottle of house wine to share.
Guests are welcome to choose a peppercorn, Diane or Béarnaise sauce or garlic butter to accompany their steak.
The steak is a succulent 8 oz sirloin, cooked to your specification and served with a plum vine tomato and fries.
If you really want to spoil yourself then there is the option to upgrade to surf ‘n’ turf and add a skewer of three king prawns for a supplement of £3.95 per person.
Metropolitan Cocktail Bar and Restaurant has a loyal fan base among 5pm customers. At the time of writing, more than 800 diners have given Metropolitan a very strong combined rating of 4.1/5.
This is what a couple of customers had to say:
‘We had a lovely evening, the menu was great and good value.’ Rating 5/5
‘Food was superb. We were a party of four and everyone agreed that the food was excellent.’ Rating 5/5
This Big Deal from Metropolitan Cocktail Bar and Restaurant would be ideal for a pre-theatre meal; a romantic dinner or a night out with friends.
Of course, there is always the option for guests to head on through to the Piano Bar for after dinner cocktails and entertainment from the talented pianists.
We’re tempted to bunk off Friday afternoon; settle in for a late lunch and start the weekend early.
Just don’t tell the Boss.
