Now that The Great British Bake Off has finished for another year, some of our chums are showing signs of cake withdrawal.
We prescribe today’s Big Deal on a luxury afternoon tea plus takeaway goody bag from The Hidden Lane Tea Room.
With vouchers valid from early January to the end of March, this offer would make a very thoughtful Christmas present for a cake-loving friend.
Charming, quirky and cosy, The Hidden Lane Tea Room is indeed tucked away at the end of a lane off Argyle Street in Glasgow’s Finnieston.
Nestled amongst multi-coloured and higgledy-piggledy studios, home to crafts people, musicians and small business folk, the Tea Room has become a hub for this creative community.
Wobbly tables, piles of recipe books and bunting on the walls give the Tea Room a homely and welcoming atmosphere.
Luxury afternoon teas
Available Tuesday to Friday and on Sundays, the offer is for two people to enjoy a luxury afternoon tea. When you have polished off the last cake crumb, you will be waved on your way with a gift bag of tablet or fudge plus loose leaf tea for each guest.
Luxury afternoon tea at The Hidden Lane Tea Room consists of gourmet sandwiches; fruit scones with fresh whipped cream and Bon Maman Jam; a selection of homemade cakes and tea or coffee.
The day’s freshly baked cakes change regularly but popular options include the pecan pie, mojito cup cakes, giant meringues and blueberry pavlova.
Top quality tea
Tea is served in the traditional way at The Hidden Lane Tea Room – loose leaf in a proper teapot with a strainer.
A 30-strong selection of black, green and chai teas are available and guest will enjoy their tipple from vintage teapots and beautiful cups and saucers.
Each guest will leave with an individual bag of tablet or fudge and loose leaf tea. Choose from English Breakfast, Earl Grey Blueflower or Blooming Marvellous Green Tea.
The Hidden Lane Tea Room has been a big hit with 5pm customers and scores a corking 4.5/5. This is what a couple of recent visitors thought:
‘Lazy Sunday afternoon. My husband and I had a nice visit to this tea room in the hidden lane. The service was good, staff welcoming and attentive. Chai tea and scones delicious. Have recommended this gem to friends and family. Thanks.’
‘A lovely wee cosy tea room, I would recommend this to anyone who loves fresh baked cakes and scones as the variety is extensive. The vintage decor adds to the homely atmosphere and the staff are warm and friendly. If you are in the area, pay a visit you won’t be disappointed.’
This Big Deal would be perfect for a catch-up with a friend in the New Year. As we mentioned, it would also make a very kind Christmas present for a friend or family member.
