These days the prospects are considerably brighter, with the imposing old building now housing Citation, a stylish restaurant offering classic and contemporary cuisine.

Today’s Big Deal sentences you and a friend to a two course meal at Citation, with an additional glass of wine to be served concurrently.

Lovely building

Citation Taverne and Restaurant is housed in the grand, neo-classical Victorian space of the old Sheriff’s Court building.

Matching the classy surroundings, the Citation chefs put the emphasis on Scottish and European cuisine, using the finest seasonal produce and combining classic and contemporary influences.

Available seven days a week, the Big Deal option one is for two people to have a two course meal at Citation, accompanied by a glass of house wine.

Option two is for one person.

The menus at Citation change depending on the seasons but your menu will look a lot like this:

Starters

Selection of warm breads and olives

Soup of the day with artisan bread (v)

Creamed goats cheese with hazelnuts, beetroot, radish and broad beans (v)

Parfait with chicken livers with shallot marmalade, prune and pickled carrot

Main courses

Battered catch of the day with crushed minted peas & tartare sauce

Roast butternut risotto with wild mushrooms, basil and Parmesan (v)

Breast of free-range chicken with pancetta, pearl onions, mushrooms, celeriac mash and red wine jus

Five spiced pressed belly of Ayrshire pork, dates, savoy cabbage and pine nuts

On Sundays, guests will choose from the Sunday lunch menu.
