A swift straw poll of the Big Deal office revealed that most of us would at least consider swapping our first born child for a really good curry.
Thanks to today’s Big Deal with Cafe India, there is no need for such a dramatic decision.
So relax, wee Max. You’re safe. For now.
Today’s Big Deal is the perfect way to enjoy some of the finest Indian food in Glasgow.
Long running restaurant
One of the city’s longest running Indian restaurants, Cafe India can be found in the lively Merchant City area of Glasgow.
On Albion Street, Cafe India is a short walk from the City Halls, Old Fruitmarket and the Tron theatre which means that it is very conveniently located for a pre-show curry.
Under new management since last year, the kitchen brigade at Cafe India creates menus which combine Indian ingredients, local produce, European influences and Indian cooking techniques.
The theatre-style open kitchen means that diners can watch as the highly skilled chefs work their magic.
The offer is valid from noon to 10pm, Sunday to Friday, and is for two people to enjoy a starter and main course from the a la carte menu, plus plain rice or nan and a soft drink.
The Cafe India kitchen team like to fuse flavours so that the starters on offer might include haggis pakora or Bombay mussels steamed and then tossed with garlic, white wine and cream. Other appetisers, such as the mixed tandoori platter or the assorted puris are more traditional.
Old favourites such as bhoonas and biryanis sit alongside a great selection of chef’s specials like the lamb genius – lamb with a touch of Guinness – or the zaikedar – a mix of chicken, lamb and king prawn in a ginger and garlic cream sauce.
Seafood lovers are well catered for with dishes like the basil sea bass while veggie dishes include the chickpeas in a hot and spicy masala or the spiced spinach with Indian cheese.
Dare devils may wish to try the tikka chance – the hottest curry on the menu.
There will be a supplement of £3 on king prawn dishes and £4 on tandoori dishes, payable directly to the restaurant.
Cafe India has earned many a glowing review over the years. Here’s one of the most recent from Cafe India’s 5pm entry:
‘Great food and service. All five enjoyed our meal, and we got a taste of their spiciest curry! Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful.’ Rating 4.6/5
