In the Bond film Moonraker, the villain Hugo Drax greets Bond with the words, ‘You have arrived at a propitious moment, coincident with your country’s one indisputable contribution to Western civilisation – afternoon tea’.
Drax was rather wordy but he was right about the civilised pleasures of afternoon tea.
Thanks to today’s Big Deal at the sophisticated Mar Hall, you can follow in Bond’s footsteps and enjoy afternoon tea for two without going to all the trouble of saving the word from improbable villains.
An Edwardian mansion, Mar Hall is one of the most elegant country house hotels in Scotland. A privately owned residence, it overlooks the River Clyde and enjoys views towards the Kilpatrick Hills.
Five star hotel
A five star golf and spa resort, Mar Hall is just twenty minutes from Glasgow but, tucked away in its own 240 acre woodland estate, it feels a million miles from the rush of the city. Naturally, it has ample, free parking.
The Mar Hall staff are far too professional to make a fuss about it but Mar Hall’s discreet luxury attracts oodles of celebs. Everyone from Ronan Keating and Brad Pitt to Coldplay via Kylie and Halle Berry has popped in at some point.
Afternoon tea for two
Taking place Mon-Thurs, 12:30-4:30pm, afternoon tea at Mar Hall is a luxurious affair.
It includes a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches with a choice of cakes and scones with clotted cream and jam along with your choice of speciality teas and coffee.
Guests may upgrade to include a glass of bubbly at a cost of £12 per 2 guests. Please pay at time of booking, directly with hotel.
Afternoon tea is served in the 118 feet long Grand Hall, the heart of Mar Hall. Furnished with French style Louis XIV chairs and low coffee tables, it is hung with fine paintings and splendid tapestries.
The 20ft windows allow ample natural light and views of the formal gardens including a large and beautiful Lebanese Cedar. The Grand Hall has been described as breath-taking but not so much as to stop guests enjoying a good catch-up over the tea and scones.
Spoil a loved one
Afternoon tea at Mar Hall would make a brilliant treat for a family member or you could use the offer to enjoy a chat with a friend.
Either way, today’s deal on afternoon tea at Mar Hall will be a memorable occasion.
Afternoon tea at Mar Hall has provided many guests with the inspiration for a TripAdvisor review. This is what a recent visitor had to say:
‘Had a lovely afternoon tea in this beautiful hotel in the Grand Hall. The staff were very friendly and attentive, replenishing tea when necessary. The scones were delicious in fact some of the best I’ve tasted. All in all the quality of the food was excellent and the fact that we had a voucher made it very good value. Thank you.’
