Luckily for our customers, they can have a taste of the Med by taking up today’s Big Deal on a Greek mezedes meal for two at Frosoulla’s @ The Greek Golden Kebab Restaurant.

Scotland’s first Greek restaurant, The Golden Greek Kebab, opened in 1972 on Sinclair Drive in Glasgow’s Southside.

Almost 50 years later, it is now run by Frosoulla, the daughter of the original owners. You may recognise Frosoulla from her cooking demos on STV Glasgow.

The restaurant has moved across the road from its original site and the decor has updated.

However, at heart, the same warm welcome and generous sense of hospitality are the guiding ethos here.

Frosoulla aims to maintain the traditional Greek culinary heritage of her parents while adding the occasional, well judged update.

Share the flavours

Available from lunch to early evening, Thursday to Sunday, today’s Big Deal is for two people to share Frosoulla’s special mezedes selection.

Prepared by Frosoulla herself, there will be a selection of hot and cold starters and a selection of main course dishes presented in the traditional mezedes style. A dessert selection to share is included.

Mezedes are the Greek equivalent of tapas or little plates and they are a very sociable way to share a meal.

The actual menu changes weekly but may include dishes such as a classic moussaka, dolmades, tender beef stifado stew, baked giovetsi, lamb kofta, chicken skewers, hummus, pitta with beetroot feta and Cypriot pork chops.

Accompaniments such as Cypriot herb-roast potatoes; Greek salad with barrel-aged feta cheese and Greek-style vegetable rice will be served.

The deal includes a house dessert to share.

Frosoulla’s has had lots of praise from both the public and professional reviewers. The latest List Eating and Drinking Guide mentions the ‘generous portions’ and ‘personable, engaging service’.

‘When the chef’s mother still prepares the dolmades to a recipe that goes back over a century, you know you are in safe hands’ notes the reviewer approvingly.
