Small plates are the new tapas, grazing is the new dining. After all, why settle for one main when you can flavour-hop between a handful of exciting small dishes?
That’s the ethos at Brutti Compadres, destination for today’s Big Deal, offering the chance to sample exciting Mediterranean cuisine in the cool environment of this vibrant café-bar in the Merchant City.
Taste of the Mediterranean
Brutti Compadres is a relaxed and stylish cafe bar located in the original tobacco exchange at Virginia Court in the Merchant City. With industrial chic décor and innovative art pieces, it’s a hip environment in which to enjoy great Continental flavours.
The menu looks to recapture the experience of sampling delicious local dishes on that Mediterranean holiday. Its wee plates, or platos pequeños, as the Spanish say, draw inspiration from across southern Europe, allowing diners to hop from Spain to Italy to Greece (and honorary Latin nation Escocia) with one flip of the menu.
Available Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday, today’s Big Deal offers guests a choice of five small plates to share from the Brutti Compadres menu, along with bread, dipping oil and a glass of Spain’s finest fizz, Cava, each.
The Brutti Compadres menu is split into veggie, meat, fish and seafood sections offering a wide and eclectic selection.
Highlights include the halloumi with chilli, prawns whose mood ranges from ‘peaceful’ to ‘angry’ depending on how much chilli they have encountered, tapas bar favourite patatas bravas, squid in its own ink and black pudding from the sun-dappled island paradise of, er, Stornoway.
In true Mediterranean style, the plates are accompanied by excellent bread and dipping oil and vinegar, as well as that glass of Cava we mentioned.
Eat at the long dining bar, choose a table or pretend you are on the Costa Blanca and enjoy the outside terrace.
Brutti Compadres has impressed customers who have tracked it down in the Merchant City, with recent TripAdvisor reviews including the following:
‘The staff were, as usual, very attentive and the tapas delicious and vibrant. The place was buzzing but we didn’t have to wait too long for our drinks. Five stars for a fab wee place.’
‘We have been a few times here and the tapas and the wine are lovely. It is in such a beautiful hidden location which I never even knew existed before but is well worth finding!’
Perfect for a catch-up with friends or family, Brutti Compadres is a stylish little enclave of southern Europe in the Merchant City. Today’s Big Deal offers a great opportunity to experience its flavours and atmosphere.
