The modern day pole dance has its roots in the Highland sword dance.
Because too many of his warriors were giving themselves accidental but painful pedicures on their claymores, Robert the Bruce banned the use of swords and insisted that the dancers used poles instead.
To ensure that the new pole dance remained a test of skill and flexibility, each dancer was allowed one pole which was set in the ground rather than having two poles crossed on the floor.
Now you know the history, you can get to grips with the real thing thanks to today’s Big Deal with Heavenly Pole.
