Sir Francis Drake shares the name of the restaurant offering today’s Big Deal and here at 5pm we’re sure that if he was alive now, he’d be more than satisfied with a meal at The Drake once he’d circumvented the globe.
Fresh, seasonal produce is the focus of The Drake in Glasgow and this Big Deal lets you pick from a menu full of seasonal delights.
There are five starters to choose from including haggis Scotch egg served with celeriac remoulade and a whisky cream or you could go for Uig Lodge smoked salmon risotto balls.
From the mains, the 6oz steak burger and haddock cooked in Samual Smiths Ale batter are always winners. For those who like it spicy, the Goan style curry is worth a look as is the lamb gigot.
If you have more of a sweet tooth, you can pick from some classics including seasonal fruit crumble or sticky toffee pudding.
A friendly, established neighbourhood eatery, there’s always a good buzz in The Drake. It’s located on Lyndoch Street on the edge of Glasgow’s west end and city centre so is ideally placed for the city’s main transport links.
The Drake receives a very healthy 4.2/5 from 5pm reviewers who highlight the quality of the food and healthy portions as well as the friendly staff.
In a recent review in October, Marieann Kerr summarises it nicely:
“The food never disappoints at The Drake. The staff are friendly with a little pinch of banter.”
