Once upon a time, on Main Street in Milngavie, there was a cinema called the Douglas Picture House. There, locals would gather nightly to watch the flickering screen.
To this day, people still assemble in the very same spot, but for different reasons. Now it’s to enjoy delicious food and cocktails, not movies. And nowadays, the only flickering comes from the candles.
Yet Finsbay restaurant, bar and cafe still honours the past with a retro-chic interior that’s both quirky and comfortable. And you can soak up the ambience with today’s Big Deal for a two course meal for two plus optional Prosecco.
Chic dining in Milngavie
This deal is for two people to have two courses at Finsbay, with the option of including a glass of Prosecco each too.
Starters include crispy potato & Stornoway black pudding croquettes, Cullen skink and the Finsbay macaroni topped with crowdie.
Mains like butternut squash & sage risotto, battered haddock with handcut chips and a choice of burgers are available.
Note the menu may be subject to change, and supplements may apply to some dishes.
Finsbay serves contemporary food in a 70s-influenced setting. So expect patterned wallpaper, rotary dial telephones and artwork that might have graced your granny’s walls when you were little.
But also expect stylish modern touches such as blonde woods and atmospheric lighting, all working together to create a relaxing vibe. In short, it’s just what Agnetha from Abba’s Scandinavian-chic apartment might have looked like in the 70s.
This deal is available Sunday to Friday from 5pm to 9pm, until the end of January (excluding December). You can also buy multiples, with a maximum of four people per table.
Mussels, burgers and mighty fine favourites
You will be dining on two courses and will have various tempting choices for your main.
Maybe you’ll opt for something from the Finsbay Favourites range, which might include the IPA beer-battered haddock with hand-cut chips, the butternut squash, garden pea & crispy sage risotto and the Famous Finsbay Mac N Cheese.
If burgers are more your bag then you might enjoy The Finsbay, a decadent delight featuring Stornoway black pudding and haggis. Or you could opt for the veggie-friendly chickpea, harissa and halloumi burger.
Or perhaps you will be tempted by the rope-grown Scottish Loch Leven mussels cooked in a choice of sauce and served with sourdough or frites.
Decisions, decisions…
Happy guests

‘A lovely restaurant with very good food.’ 4/5
‘After walking in the door it’s like settling into a friend’s lounge. Comfy. Friendly attentive staff without being overbearing. Then you get to the food. Well described on the menu to pull you in to an impossible choice, once you do the portions are generous and the food extremely tasty and well presented. Going back, most definitely!’ 4.75/5
‘We had been to Finsbay for breakfast, coffee, lunch, and though it was time we tried it for dinner! As it happened, 5pm.co.uk had the January sale and we were delighted that we could book a 2-course dinner at Finsbay on this deal. It was midweek and the restaurant was full, making for a great atmosphere. The service was impeccable and the food delicious – we will be back soon (even at full prices, which are reasonable).’ 5/5
