The great writer, philosopher and honey-lover Winnie the Pooh once said, ‘It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long difficult words but rather short, easy words like “What about lunch?”’
2 course lunch
We couldn’t agree more. What about a delicious two course lunch for two people in the Verandah Restaurant in the stunning Atholl Palace Hotel, Pitlochry?
We’ll even add in a tour at the nearby Edradour Distillery, a charming spot which has the distinction of being Scotland’s smallest distillery.
Lunch with a view
The deal is for two people to enjoy a starter and main course in the rather stylish Verandah Restaurant at Atholl Palace.
As well as fantastic views across the rolling Perthshire countryside, diners can enjoy the finest, fresh produce from the surrounding land and water.
The menu changes depending on what is seasonally available but typical dishes include starters such as the Highland haggis in amber ale batter and the breaded fillet of East Coast haddock.
Before or after your lunch, there are lots of fun things to do at the hotel. A stroll around the herb garden or the new Japanese Garden would help work up an appetite.
Just be sure to leave time to enjoy your distillery tour. Nestling in a pocket glen in the hills above Pitlochry, Edradour is the last original ‘farm’ distillery in Perthshire.
It was built in the early nineteenth century and seems hardly to have changed since. You’ll be welcomed with a wee dram of Edradour in the Malt Barn where guides will show you a short video and talk you through the history of Edradour and the whisky maker’s art. Then you will be shown around the distillery to see the traditional methods of whisky making. A tour will take around 50 minutes.
Great gift idea
This Big Deal would make a fantastic day out for anyone but it would also make for a very welcome gift for the whisky lover in your life. We reckon that Winnie would also approve.
