The idea that romance is dead is a popular one for pundits at this time of year. The thinking goes along the lines that romance, flirting and courtship have been trampled by Valentine’s Day e-cards and sexting.
Well, not on our watch.
Today’s Big Deal is for afternoon tea with a glass of champagne at the elegant 29 on Royal Exchange Square – the perfect way to woo a loved one on Valentine’s Day.
Occupying two floors of a stunning 19th century sandstone building, 29 Private Members’ Club offers a smart, fashionable spot to relax right in the hub of Glasgow’s cosmopolitan city centre.
It’s the ideal venue in which to charm a loved one with a lingering glance over the Darjeeling.
This swish offer is for two people to enjoy a gourmet afternoon tea with a glass of champagne each in the Network Bar at 29 on Valentine’s Day.
There are two sittings available: the first at 2pm and the second at 3.30pm. Both last 90 minutes.
The 29 afternoon tea is a luxurious affair which starts with your choice from a selection of fine teas and coffees.
Served on a rather smart three tier tray, the range of sandwiches includes Scottish smoked salmon and cucumber; roast Scotch beef with horseradish cream; free range egg mayonnaise with cress and honey roast ham with mustard.
Finish off with scones, cream and jam plus an array of fine, miniature cakes, pastries and treats.
A glass of champagne will accompany the dainty treats and perhaps help refresh memories about any particularly juicy piece of gossip.
There is also the option to explore 29’s fine cocktail list at £4.95 a pop. We like the idea of the 29 Sidecar: gin, triple sec and lemon juice shaken over ice and dressed with a lemon twist.
Make someone happy
Today’s Big Deal would make a very romantic Valentine gift. Many a love affair has been started or sustained over tea, cake and dainty sandwiches.
