Dating back to 1793, the present day Torrance Hotel in East Kilbride started life as a coaching house.
Stage coaches, horses and highwaymen are rather less common around East Kilbride these days. However, The Torrance Hotel maintains the tradition of providing fine food to visitors.
The Torrance Hotel is located in The Village, the old part of East Kilbride. Although it dates back over 200 years, a recent, award-winning refurbishment has ensured that it looks smartly contemporary.
Along with a bright and airy conservatory, it features a chic lounge bar and restaurant with cosy booths, exposed stone and wood panelling.
The kitchen’s approach to food is admirably simple: take the best seasonal produce and let its natural flavours shine through.

The Torrance has lots of fans in the local area and from further afield. Taken from TripAdvisor, this is what a couple of visitors thought of their visits:
‘Lovely meal. Went to this restaurant last week with my husband and had a really great experience. We were served by Paige and she was so helpful and attentive. The staff all seemed very nice and the food was lovely. We will definitely return.’
We’ve cut the next review for length:
‘Excellent venue. Visited the restaurant in these premises on two occasions… and have been very impressed on both occasions. From the greeting by reception and restaurant staff to the decor and quality of the food, everything has been first class. Staff were always on hand and waiting times from ordering food to it being on the table were good. The quality of the food served and the presentation of it was first class on both occasions and thanks must go to the chef and his staff for this… I will certainly be back and would recommend it to anyone.’
This Big Deal writer has also eaten at The Torrance Hotel and we had a very pleasant lunch while enjoying the spring sunshine in the conservatory.
