As we all recall from geography classes, the Drake Passage is the notoriously stormy body of water between the tip of southern South America and the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica.
By contrast, its namesake, The Drake is a friendly restaurant and bar on the tip of Glasgow’s West End.
Drop anchor at The Drake and enjoy today’s Big Deal on a delightful dinner for two.
Seasonal and local
Available from Sunday to Thursday, 5pm-9pm, this offer is for two people to have two courses from the 5pm menu at The Drake.
Fresh, seasonal and local produce is the focus of The Drake in Glasgow and this Big Deal lets you pick from a great selection of tempting dishes.
There are three starters to choose from including smoked mackerel and dill pate, horseradish sourdough and a pickled cucumber salad or slow roasted pork belly, black pudding puree, pea shoot and apple salad.
From the mains, the 6oz steak burger and haddock cooked in Samuel Smiths Ale batter are always winners. For those who like it spicy, the Goan style curry is worth a look.
If you have more of a sweet tooth, you can pick from some classics including seasonal fruit crumble or sticky toffee pudding.
A well established neighbourhood eatery, housed in a spacious townhouse, there’s always a good buzz in The Drake.
It’s located on Lynedoch Street on the edge of Glasgow’s West End and city centre so is ideally placed for the city’s main transport links.
The Drake receives a very healthy 4.2/5 from 5pm reviewers who highlight the quality of the food and healthy portions as well as the friendly staff.
The venue has also had lots of positive feedback on their Facebook page. This is what Eric Hathaway had to say:
‘This place has so much to shout about, great food (quite a few notches up from pub grub), nice wines and beers, a really diverse range of background music from around the world, live music from folkies to classical and a great real pub feel.’
