Boutique hotel on Skye
Built in 1865, the eighteen bedroom, boutique hotel is set in 35 acres of grounds on the Southern Peninsula; an area known as the Garden of Skye.
Close to the ferry link to Mallaig and near to the bridge, the award-winning hotel faces east which means guests can enjoy magnificent morning sunrise views over the sea to the mountains of the mainland.
Starting with a welcome glass of Champagne when you arrive, the offer is for a two consecutive night stay in a classic double room with a full Scottish breakfast each morning.
Guests will enjoy a 2 course dinner in the hotel’s Chart Room restaurant on the first night.
Under new ownership since 2007, each bedroom at Duisdale House Hotel has been refurbished in its own unique and contemporary style. Rich, bold fabrics, flat screen TVs and luxury toiletries in the ensuite bathrooms are standard.
Finest Scottish ingredients
When it comes to dining, visitors to Duisdale are spoiled. The Lounge, with its open fire and comfy sofas is the top spot to relax and enjoy some afternoon tea and freshly baked scones with jam and cream.
The Chart Room is perfect for a pre-dinner drink, a casual lunch or evening meal. It also features an interesting cocktail list and a great range of malts for the evenings.
As we mentioned, the offer includes dinner in the Chart Room on the first night. If guests choose to take other meals in the hotel then the centrepiece of the dining options is the fine dining restaurant under Head Chef David Allan. His menus, which use the finest Scottish ingredients, have won two AA Rosettes for the restaurant.
The menus change with the seasons but typical dishes might be the Skye shellfish bisque served with rouille, olive oil and shellfish essence or the roast breast of wild Scottish mallard with confit leg, Savoy cabbage and quince sauce.
See & Do on Skye
Of course, there is no shortage of walking, climbing or wildlife spotting to enjoy on Skye but there is also no need to leave the hotel. Enchanting walks though the garden and surrounding woodlands will sharpen the appetite for dinner. Many guests enjoy soaking in the atmosphere from the hotel’s hot tub.
From April onwards, there is also the option to spend the day sailing on the Solus a Chuain Light of the Ocean, the hotel’s beautiful private yacht.
Previous visitors have loved Duisdale House Hotel. This is what a recent TripAdvisor visitor had to say:
‘Lovely hotel with excellent service and fantastic food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel on a chilly and wet January day. Arriving cold and a little dishevelled from our trip we were ushered in to the attractive lounge to warm by a real fire and were swiftly brought a cafetiere of coffee with some homemade shortbread. We were given a genuine welcome and very helpful advice on the island. Our room (11) was large and very well furnished with great sea views and a fantastic bathroom (with both free standing bath and shower). The bed was very comfy and warm. We ate in the restaurant from the prix fixe menu and were extremely impressed. The service was efficient, friendly and charming. The food was excellent and the menu very well balanced. Breakfast was similarly good and offered a diverse selection of options. We would definitely return and would recommend.’
Today’s Big Deal with Duisdale House Hotel would be a lovely surprise were someone to find it in the card on Valentine’s Day.
