A friendly sandwich and coffee bar by day, Bocadillo becomes Bocadillo Bistro by night – an enticing neighbourhood hangout serving super interesting tapas.
The Sauchiehall Street venture is also the venue for informal wine tasting sessions from wine expert Fiona Jameson.
Today’s Big Deal is a great chance to try out all that Bocadillo Bistro has to offer.
Option one of this Big Deal is for one person to take part in a tutored wine tasting for beginners with Fiona Jamieson on 24th July. The wine tasting begins at 6pm and ends at 8pm.
In those two hours, you will nose and sip six different wines while Fiona explains the wines’ qualities and characteristics.
Canapés will be provided so you can graze as you taste.
A wine trade professional with many years of experience, Fiona is a dab hand at bringing the world of wine to life.
When the tasting ends, you will be given an interesting bottle of wine to take home – an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your new tasting skills to friends and family.
Available 5pm to 8.30pm on Fridays, noon to 8.30pm on Saturdays and 1pm to 6pm on Sundays, option two of the deal is for one person to enjoy two tapas, a dessert and a glass of wine, bottled beer, non-alcoholic cocktail or soft drink.
It’s perfect for a quick dinner after work and would be ideal for a bite before a show at the nearby King’s Theatre or a gig at The Hydro.
The kitchen at Bocadillo Bistro serves an adventurous and evolving range of tapas which venture far beyond the usual meatballs, tortilla and patatas bravas.
Prime Scottish ingredients take pride of place in many of them.
Eye-catching choices include king scallops with Stornoway black pudding on a bed of spiced apple purée and the glazed short rib of beef with parsnip mash, crispy onions and port jus.
The vegetarian dishes have just as much wow factor. Choices include the wild garlic and mushroom ravioli with white wine and tarragon cream or the foraged mushroom and caramelised onion tart with sundried tomato pesto.
Bocadillo’s evening bistro has only been running for a few months but is already attracting enthusiastic reviews on its 5pm page where it has a fantastic combined rating of 4.7/5. This review was posted recently:
‘First time at this place but won’t be the last. £10 for two tapas, a dessert and a glass of wine was outstanding. The ribs were juicy and perfectly cooked. It was the first time I had scallops and they were magic with a lovely sauce. Dessert was outstanding with hot caramel cake topped with tablet flavoured ice cream and fruit. Recommended to friends.’ Rating 5/5
Delicious tapas with a glass of wine. A tutored wine tasting with canapés and a bottle to take home.
