School may be closed for a few weeks but it is always the right time to learn a new life skill.

Enjoy an introduction to the kitchen; have fun and stave off summer holiday boredom with today’s Big Deal on an adult and kid cookery course at Tennent’s Training Academy.

Cookery class

Hidden behind the gates of the famous Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow’s East End sits the Tennent’s Training Academy, Scotland’s centre for excellence in entertaining and hospitality training.

The multi-million pound Academy is used to train Scotland’s next generation of top notch chefs but it also opens its doors to the public so that they too can learn the culinary secrets of the country’s finest kitchen artistes.

5-16 year-olds

Aimed at five to sixteen year-olds, this Big Deal is for one adult and one child to enjoy one of the following three cookery classes.

All the classes include tea, coffee and juice; an apron, chef’s hat plus all the equipment, recipes and ingredients needed for your class.

Each class will get full tuition, guidance and demonstrations from the Head Chef. After that, it’s off to the work stations to put your newfound knowledge to good use.

Italian class

If junior likes Italian food then this three hour class will teach a variety of simple but tasty treats.

Learn how to make cheesy garlic twist bread; easy-peasy tomato and basil pasta; raspberry ripple ice cream and chocolate-dipped strawberries.

After cooking, all the class will sit at the chef’s table and eat the meal they have made.

This class takes place 11am-2pm on Friday 29th July.

Pizza making party

This is a hands-on family friendly pizza party.

Guests are invited to don their aprons and get messy with your kids as you cook along with the Head Chef.

You will make your own dough from scratch; pick your own pizza toppings and make your own pizza together. 

While you watch your pizza cook perfectly in our state of the art ovens, listen to pop music and decorate your own chef’s hat.

Then it’s time to eat your creations along with the other families at the giant chef’s table. You can even take home the left overs if you can’t manage the full pizza in one go.

These classes run 10am-noon on Thursday 21st and Monday 25th July and 1pm-3pm on Wednesday 3rd August.

Ice cream and cookies

Is your wee one a total Cookie Monster? If so he or she will roar to get their claws into this class.

Join the super skilled but fun chefs and learn how to make and bake the perfect cookies before whipping up your own ice cream from scratch.

Sit down as a group and try your creations at the chef’s table. 

Guests will be invited to take home their own cookies or some dough so you can make more cookies for family and friends. 

These classes run 10am-noon on Friday 15th and Saturday 30th July and Thursday 11th August, and 1pm-3pm on Friday 22nd July and Friday 12th August 2016.
