Glasgow may have won the Curry Capital of the Year title more often than any other place in the UK but it’s no secret that the city also loves Italian food like Berlusconi loves bunga bunga.
Celebrate Glasgow’s passion for pasta with today’s Big Deal at Esca in the Merchant City.
Handy for the Tron Theatre which is just across the road, Esca has been dishing up traditional, regional Italian food with a twist for over a decade.
The popular Italian bistro has a warm, comfortable interior and friendly staff. When night falls, the candles are lit giving the restaurant a romantic glow.
Esca’s 5pm gourmet menu is extensive with a choice of five starters, seven main courses and three desserts.
Typical starters include the steamed mussels, stuffed chillies, minestrone soup and a half portion of penne carbonara.
Among the main courses are a rib eye steak in a brandy and green peppercorn sauce; chicken and asparagus risotto; pan-fried salmon in a sauce of capers, tomatoes and onions; the spicy Inferno pizza and the penne Primavera which features seasonal vegetables in a light cream sauce.
For dessert, choose between a pear and apple crumble; ice cream or tiramisu.
The Big Deal includes a half bottle of house wine and, to finish, a great Italian coffee or, if you prefer, tea.
Esca has long been a big hit with 5pm customers. At the time of writing, there are over 1400 reviews of the bistro by people who had eaten there. They have given it a combined rating of 4.3/5.
This is what a couple of recent diners had to say:
‘A birthday treat for my mum. Excellent service provided for the seven at the table. The also served the birthday cake at end of meal. Thank you Esca. Will be back soon.’
