Independent craft beer bar

A funky basement bar on Sauchiehall Street, The Hippo Taproom is an independent craft beer bar which has spun out from the amazing Hippo Beers shop in the West End.

With exposed brick walls and a soundtrack of alternative, indie, blues and soul – plus the occasional live act – it is a cool and casual hangout with an underground vibe in all senses of the word.

The bar has ten keg lines, three cask lines and 70 plus bottles and cans of beers from all over the world.

They know beer like you know the back of your hand.

Five different beers

This Big Deal is for one person to enjoy a craft beer tutored tasting. As well as five 1/3 pint samples of different craft beers, the offer includes a selection of cheese and crackers chosen to complement the beers.

Option one is for tasting on Sunday 28th May, option two is for a tasting on Sunday 25th June and option three is for a tasting on Sunday 30th July.

They all start at 4pm and will last around an hour and a half.

Different beer styles

The beers picked will showcase a range of styles and demonstrate the main types of beer and their taste characteristics as well as explaining how they are brewed.

Your friendly and knowledgeable bar keep will explain how different malts, hops and yeasts all affect the flavour of the beer.

Put simply, your eyes will be opened to the infinite splendour of the beer universe and your taste buds will never tolerate another pint of cooking lager.
