Leith used to be an important port for the spice trade and it’s still a magnet for those who like their food fragrant with cardamom; earthy with cumin and hot with chilli.
Take your taste buds on a tour of India’s spices with today’s Big Deal at Guchhi on Commercial Street in Leith.
Since opening in 2010, Guchhi’s fusion of modern Indian flavours and fresh seafood has made them a smash hit on Leith’s spice parade.
Today’s finger-licking Big Deal is for two people to share four tapas from the extensive tapas menu at Guchhi. Add in a cocktail each from Guchhi’s lively cocktail list and you have all the ingredients of a great night out.
Chef and owner Vishant Das learned his chops in Goa before a stint with the Loch Fyne restaurants. As a result, he is a man who knows how to make the most of his mussels.
From oysters with a curry crumb to chilli butter scallops via tandoori king prawns, the menu at Guchhi is a seafood lover’s delight.
Not that everything on Guchhi’s menu came from the sea. Lamb in mint sauce, chicken pakora, garlic chilli mushrooms and black lentil daal are all tasty alternatives to the seafood on offer.
The cocktail list at Guchhi is as colourful as the food and many of the drinks use exotic flavours and ingredients to give them an interesting new twist.
From a coconut daiquiri to a Hindi Punch via a Saffron Red Snapper, there is plenty of choice to get excited about.
With today’s Big Deal, each diner can enjoy a cocktail, or non- alcoholic drink, to accompany their meal.
Guchhi has no shortage of fans on the 5pm Restaurant site. This is what a recent diner had to say:
‘The tapas menu is fantastic – especially recommend the seafood tapas which have some lovely flavours. Really friendly service too, which makes it a great night out.’
