At present, the question ‘Do you Bokwa®?’ might be the sort of enquiry which draws puzzled looks.
Not for long. Originating in the dance classes of Los Angeles but with roots in South Africa, Bokwa® is a new group fitness programme which is rapidly winning global popularity.
With today’s Big Deal you can discover Bokwa® by taking eight classes with your fully qualified instructor Laurie. Classes take place twice a week in Bellshill and Cumbernauld.
What is Bokwa®?
Bokwa is a new and completely different approach to group exercise. Participants draw letters and numbers with their feet while performing an energising and addictive cardio workout routine.
The name is a fusion of “Bo” referring to the light Boxing element, and “Kwa” referring to Kwaito dancing which is a form of expressive South African dancing.
Bokwa® steps are structured and based on the forms of letters and numbers, so doing Bokwa® does not require you to count steps. There is no need to learn routines; once you know the step you own it.
Classes are conducted to upbeat, popular music – likely to be the same feel-good songs you listen to in your car.
Everyone can do Bokwa®
Because the steps are structured as letters and numbers, everyone can do Bokwa®. From four-year-old toddlers to seventy-year-olds with two left feet, Bokwa® is fun for all ages and fitness levels.
Because of the energizing music, the fun and motivation that comes from people moving together to music, Bokwa® doesn’t feel like working out. Although it doesn’t seem like hard work, Bokwa® can burn up to 1200 calories in a single session.
