The Art School on Scott Street has long been a brilliant place to catch a band; have a drink or dance your socks off.

Fondly known as The Vic, it’s part of Glasgow School of Art Students’ Association and sits opposite the much loved Mackintosh building, just behind Sauchiehall Street.

With a menu that cherry picks the tastiest dishes from around the globe, it’s also a great spot for a bite to eat.

International cuisine

Available noon to 9pm, Monday to Friday, and from 5pm to 9pm on Saturdays, the offer is for two or more people to share a bottle of house wine plus any four dishes from the street food section of the menu.

Eastern options include beef pho – a Vietnamese dish of flat iron steak in a spicy herby broth – or a Korean dish of marinated, boneless chicken thigh which is coated in panko crumbs, fried and served with kimchee and sambal mayo.

Veggie dishes on offer range from saag paneer served with chapatti and beetroot chutney to falafel and flatbread with cucumber, red onion, a tomato and lettuce salad plus tzatziki and hummus.

There is also a delightful range of yum buns – steamed, savoury Chinese buns filled with fillings such as lemongrass marinated tofu or char sui pork with cucumber, Sriracha hot sauce, pickled carrot and mooli with toasted peanuts.

The Art School is well known as a dynamic hub for Glasgow’s arts, clubbing and music scenes. Plenty of people also rave about its food on its 5pm page.

‘A student refectory… in itself a refreshing change from many eating places. We were promptly seated at our reserved table by a very friendly young man… The menu was not too extensive but there was a good choice… The portions were very generous and the food hot, tasty and well presented… The whole visit was great and I would certainly recommend this offer to my friends.’ Rating 4.8/5
