Glasgow and Edinburgh: two great cities separated by dozens of small but keenly felt differences.
One thing they both have in common is an appreciation of great Italian food, stylish surrounds and friendly service – all of which are on the menu with today’s Big Deal at the Amarone restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
While Glasgow’s Amarone, on Nelson Mandela Place, has been wowing customers for years, Edinburgh’s branch is much younger, having opened on St Andrews Square last summer.
What they share is a cool sense of contemporary style which applies to the food as much as the menus.
This Big Deal is for one person to enjoy a three course meal from the 5pm menu at either Amarone restaurant. This offer is valid Sunday to Thursdays.
Specific dishes will change depending on what ingredients are seasonal and available but, with a choice of six starters, six main courses and two desserts, there is plenty to choose from.
Typical starters include Scottish mussels in white wine, garlic and parsley sauce; rigatoni pasta with salsiccia sausage and the ever popular minestrone soup.
Main course include roast fillet of cod with a mixed Italian herb and garlic salsa with basil and olive oil mash; stone baked pizza with rosemary sautéed potato, onion, thyme and cherry tomatoes or, of course, pasta dishes such as the linguine with meatballs, cherry tomatoes and a tomato and basil sauce.
Desserts are the chef’s dessert of the day or the Amarone cheese platter served with oatcakes and chutney.
