The phrase ‘mint condition’ meaning brand new originally referred to coins which had just been minted or manufactured.
Today’s refreshing Big Deal with the Mint Hotel will leave your taste buds feeling brand new without costing a mint.
The deal is for a three course meal plus a 250ml carafe of wine and coffee at the City Café in the Mint Hotel.
Part of Glasgow’s revitalised waterfront, the Mint Hotel is handy for gigs at the SECC or visits to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery; the Science Centre and the boutique shops of the West End. It also has free parking.
As well as an AA Rosette, the hotel’s City Café restaurant has stunning river views thanks to its floor-to-ceiling windows. If the weather is being kind then you can eat on the extensive decking terrace.
Whichever option you choose, the award winning chefs at Mint will work their toques off to ensure that the food on your plate is tasty, fresh and seasonal. For this Big Deal, there is a choice of four starters, five main courses and four desserts from the market menu.
The market menu at the City Café changes twice a week but the sort of dish available includes starters such as the grilled sardines with black olive tapenade, English radish and coriander salad or the striped candy beetroot served with an asparagus and English goats cheese tart, crispy red onion rings and wild garlic.
Typical City Café main courses include the free range chicken breast with Savoy cabbage, pancetta and fine green beans or the char grilled Loch Duart Salmon with sautéed gnocchi, baby spinach and sun blushed tomato dressing.
The City Café is a firm favourite with 5pm customers. At the time of writing just under 300 of you had given it a combined score of 4.1/5.
One of the most recent 5pm reviews was from Margaret McCready. ‘Excellent will certainly go back,’ was her pithy but punchy verdict.
