It is said that ‘golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle.’
Today’s Big Deal with the Macdonald Cardrona Golf Course perhaps falls a little short of miraculous but, for golfers, it’s not far off divine.
The Deal is £15 instead of £35 for one person to play eighteen holes on the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf Course, near Peebles.
It also entitles you to a discount of 20% on food at the hotel if you fancy a bite before or after your game.
Dave Thomas design
About a 40 minute drive from Edinburgh and an hour and a half away from Glasgow, the Macdonald Cardrona course is stunning.
Designed by former Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas in 2001, the Par 72 parkland and woodland course nestles into the surrounding countryside.
The course has matured quickly and has already hosted the 2004 and 2007 Euro Pro Tour and both the 2007 and 2008 European Challenge Tour.
Wide, undulating USGA greens and a distance of over 7000 yards from the medal tees make Cardrona an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all levels.
As well as being fun to play, the course is rather easy on the eye. Dramatic and breathtaking views of the Scottish Border hills dominate every hole, while an abundance of wildlife and the generous fairways all lull you into a false sense of security.
However, beware the famous River Tweed, as it meanders its way through the course, lying in wait for your golf ball on the 3rd, 8th, 12th and 18th hole.
Sandy Lyle reckoned that ‘The Cardrona course will excite, challenge and thrill. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed’.
We’re not going to argue with him. If you want to treat yourself, play a round with a pal or buy a present for the golfer in your life then today’s Big Deal is the equivalent of a hole in one.
